Unmissable. Absolutely delicious food and excellent service. I have eaten here several times and never been disappointed. What a suprise. We have lived in the Margate area for about 18 months and heard about this restaurant and seen them at some food fairs, however was unsure of the concept and therefore did not make the effort to book! We visited on the 9th December before a show at the Winter Gardens, more for something to eat rather than an event and the restaurant visit became the event not the show! We believe we are very fussy and picky having been lucky enough to travel widely and try many fabulous restaurants, so to find this on our doorstep - at a push we could walk there, is amazing.
The food was fabulous, fresh, amazing and an unusual balance of flavours an I guess this is the difference I still can't put my finger on the concept - all I know is that it is true quality and inspiration. When you look at the menu it doesn't blow you away but as soon as you sit down and talk about the food it becomes special. They have mini courses that they bring to your table of appetisers and refreshers all of the same quality, the main courses are decent portions excellently executed - you probably don't need sides! We had to skip off before dessert but won't next time.
The staff were great, the venue was nice even if a little bit of a lower level decor than you would expect to match the food. The food was amazing. Even my 16 year old son, who reasonably adventurous although a bit fussy was impressed, and you know how difficult that is. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to any foodie and we will be going many, many times again, and dragging people down from London to go with us. "This was our 2nd visit to the Ambrette after a wonderful find in August we returned with friends. You might think coming to Margate, especially out of season, that all you'll find is fish & chips shops but this is a hidden haven & makes Margate well worth a visit whatever the weather.The food was again amazing! "The Ambrette in  Margate is a gem. Set in an old pub it surprised us with the quality of the food, presentation and  complimentary extras (kir aperitive, & 2 x amuses bouches) even in the 50% lunchtime meal deal. The menu was varied and each dish was beautifully presented and fully described on its arrival by helpful attentive staff who obviously care about their guests. Margate is going through a renaisance and the Ambrette provides an experience seldom bettered in larger more prosperous towns."

"The Ambrette in Margate was the BEST indian I've ever had! It was my husbands 50th & I took him & my 7 y.o  here. The food was just breathtaking & beautiful! You would think your in a 5 star hotel. We ordered 2 starters, 3 main meals, 1 side & the trio dessert. It was more than enough! & they also give you complementry bites inbetween dishes. Such nice touches! The chef kindly came to our table to ask if my son wanted his prawns cooked more simply without too many spices, would highly recomend!!"
